Before you judge what a good baker i am, please bear in mind that I am a scientist, and making kids novelty birthday cakes is not a part of my job description...
And, i made it at 6am on a sunday morning, so, i gave myself A+ for dedication to my nephew... Im sure im the best aunt a kid could ask for... (and the best daughter a mother could ask for as well) because after the cake was done, I baked a whole lot os different biscuits etc. for eid, so that my mum doesnt have to do it during the week... so, i spent my entire day in the kitchen yesterday, and by 7:30pm, i was ready to drop dead...
Anywayz, this is the cake: Yusuf was really impressed... 
He couldnt wait to eat it, so he cut a piece with a butter knife, before we even sang for him... 
He turned four, but he insisted that he only wanted 2 candles on the cake... dont know why...

for my eleventh birthday, my mum bought me a cake in the shape of a book. The quintessential nerd, I was so chaffed with it. still have the pics, pudgy lil Saaleha with her tortoise-shell framed specs, i was the posterchild for geek :)

lets see- i've had a guitar shaped cake, the animal farm one ( every kid had this) a car wash cake for my fourth birthday, ninja turtles for my eight, a spaceship, a video game console shaped cake - my favourite.. the creativity went downhill from there. for my last birthday they just stuck a candle in a bowl of chicken chowmein , and where like, "happy 24th MJ. Enjoy'

hmm thanks for the offer fatima but my suf is being kept quite busy here in jhb with the lasses at tiny tots/his neighbours etc so you can keep your zainab for now (i'll call you when we need him to settle down;)

Fatima: thanks, if you want him, you can have him. but be warned, he doesnt stop talking from the time he gets up, till he sleeps. literally.. not even for two minutes... It was a chocolate cake, my speciality..
Z: funny you should mention the smoking, when he is in the mood, he stands with his legs crossed, and acts as though he has a cigarette in his hand.. I blame my brother and his father for that... Chain smokers of the world...
